MainDragMusic.com – Born to Rock (Kid using Cocaine?)

Main Drag Music is an instrument store, which customers range, as they say, from the doom metal guitarist to the jazz drummer, from the parents, who are buying instrument to their kids to biggest stars. These ads are really selling sex, drugs and rock’n’roll to us, but not the instruments. From the marketing point of view, the ad campaign is quite good, as it targets main musicians needs (fame, sex and cocaine). However showing a kid which is about to use cocaine (ok, it’s sugar, but it still stands for cocaine) is a shame. Well, we have to admit that the first ad is very creative.

Lifebuoy – You Eat What You Touch

Lifebuoy is a brand of soap containing phenol originally marketed by Lever Brothers in England beginning in 1895. I have never heard about it, but it boast of being one of the most famous soaps in the world which has been on the market for over 100 years.  However, due to the latest rules from the EU in Brussels, they are no longer permitted to include carbolic (phenol) among the ingredients of the 85g bars of Red Lifebuoy Soap and are being deleted from the market.

History aside, we find this soap advertisement quite funny and creative. However, the dog looks too lovely, and the ad doesn’t convince me, that I need cleaning my hands. What about you?

Interesting fact: When the Philadelphia Phillies played at the Baker Bowl during the 1920s, an outfield wall advertisement for Lifebuoy stated, “The Phillies use Lifebuoy”. One night a graffiti artist sneaked in and added to the ad, “And they still stink”.

So simple and  clear idea. We like it! Another good thing is that this advert communicates a good message – the product is fresh, and healthy (not really sure if it’s truly healthy). Damn, I want those teddies now!

Viagra – helping old men score. I don’t know about you guys, but these ads have this strange subtlety. They do not scream, but somehow they catch your attention. Also thumbs up for the photographer. What do you think?

Financial Times – Global Downturn (or The First Mistake Businesses Make)

Financial Downturn. What is the first mistake businesses make? Don’t know yet? OK, heres a little hint bellow…

Yep, no advertising! It’s shown in a pretty straightforward way, but I believe that many of you had to look twice and think for a while to get the idea. Making the viewers think is of course an excellent thing in advertisement, because people just love to solve puzzles.  OK, so the idea is 10/10, but.. Theres always those buts.

The problem is that this ad could get easily ignored by our eyes (because of selective attention) . Many people just mistake it for a genuine torn down billboard. So 9/10?

Tardiz Bicycle Helmet – Designed to Make You Faster (Shocking Ads)

Ouch! That was fast. It’s “The new Tardiz Bicycle Helmet – Designed to Make You Faster”.

This is the kind of ads that you either like or hate. Who cares that many people complain about the cruelty of the campaign? These complains just reinforce the  effectiveness of the advertisement. Provoke and shock the people and they will do the rest job of advertising for free (blogs, tweets, emails etc.). Ok, maybe it’s a bit too much, it could have been only a tail, but then I wouldn’t even be talking about it right now, would I?

Durex – Cheaper (creative but probably unethical ads)

That is a very neat and creative advertising, but the campaign has some contrasting opinions. Children lovers say, that having a baby can’t be measured by money and some saved cash can’t be the advantage of not having children. It may be true for those, who want to have kids, but we all understand, that the main target of condom advertising are the people, who don’t want to have children yet.  And one of the main reasons are often money. Creative? Yes! Unethical? Maybe.
